Blast From The Past - Fleetwood Mac
BBC FOUR is currently screening a great series of music related programmes and last night we happened upon their "Classic Albums" documentary on Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours".
Strangely earlier in the day I had been listening to the Peter Green era Mac's take on "Shake Your Money Maker"
and the programme hit home on just how much the band metamorphosed in the late 70.s, From their 60's blues roots via the novelty hit "Albatross"
there can be few bands which have changed so much over the years, perhaps Genesis in their prog art rock Gabriel era to Collins and their pop fake soul era is another example, ironically "Rumours" is one of the few LA albums from this period that I like and is one of perhaps only 40 or so albums that represented in their entirity on my iPod.
I suspect my likening for the album is based on the overall vibe of the album which was born out of a series of relationship breakdowns in the band, below the polished pop of the music are some hard hitting scorned lyrics which gives an interesting sweet and sour feel.
